What bag to use for Travelling – TOTE

Totes are the workhorse of the travelling woman. They can handle being stuffed to the brim with a change of clothes, a computer, a lunch. Many totes have nothing more than a clasp to close them so I recommend searching out one with a zipper or something that folds over to keep sticky fingers from having easy access.

What bag to use for Travelling – BUM BAG

The fanny pack is a controversial choice as a stylish travel bag. We have all seen tourists wearing the bum bag. The nylon ones from the mid to late 80’s spring to mind. Pair them with white running shoes and zip off pants and you might as well just hand pick pocketers your lunch money because your outfit screams TOURIST! But modern belt bags as they are called are luxurious. Rich leathers, designer labels make these fanny packs covet-able. The benefit of these bags is that you won’t grow tired of carrying them and you have easy access to what you need. The drawback is that they don’t carry much and you are still not safe in close quarters (think packed subways). Still you wear one of these fanny packs for travel and you are going to be seen as a confident style star who doesn’t stick out in a fashion capital.

What bag to use for Travelling – BACKPACK

Much like the Tote, a backpack is a carry all for the traveler. It is where you stuff things you need for your day but might not need easy access. Because they are worn on the back, a backpack is easy access for pick-pocketers so it is best to keep identification and money somewhere else. But for a sweater, travel guides, snacks they are the perfect option.

What bag to use for Travelling – CROSSBODY

If you want to go hands free but aren’t ready to try out the whole modern fanny pack thing then might I suggest a cross body bag. Make sure that when you wear it that you actually wear it across your body and in the front. Wearing it on one shoulder makes it easier to grab and run. Still a cross body bag is the perfect size to stash your phone, a few bucks and your sunnies for easy access.

I recommend having something like a money belt or something hidden where you can stash your valuables, or make sure to get a safe at your hotel.

With a place to stash your valuables pick a combination of one small bag for easy access and a larger one to tote around your essentials for the day.

Which bags would you choose?
