Festival Style; Rain or Shine

Festival season is approaching fast with Coachella’s opening weekend April 11th. In fact South by Southwest has already come and gone. Canadian festivals really don’t get started until it warms up (so like not until at least MAY), but we can live vicariously through all of those attending the famous music festivals around the world.

Festival fashion evokes images of girls wearing in no particular order a floral crown, anything crochet, a kimono or headscarf. Maybe even all of the aforementioned items at the same time. Cliches aside dressing for a music festival has many things to consider and since they are held anywhere from the dry dessert to a muddy field you need to keep it real and dress appropriately so that you can enjoy yourself and the music.

Top/Hat/Sunglasses/Ring/Weekender Bag/ Bracelets/Sandals/Jacket/Shorts

Personally I like a bit more of a grown up and put together festival look. It doesn’t mean I am not going touch any of the cliches (ok well maybe not a floral crown) but just in a more refined way at this point in my life. I love a good boho top and the eyelet one from Micheal Kors above is just that. Pair it with some denim shorts and a fantastic gladiator sandal and you have a go to summer outfit. Make it more festival friendly with a Southwest inspired bag big enough to carry a jacket or lunch or whatever you need to bring with you. Throw on a hat to avoid sunstroke and some fabulous shades and you are good to go.

Now if you are like me you might be more of a jeans girl (loving the print on the ones above) than a shorts girl so the above look is how I would envision festival style if it was more on the cooler side or rather not a complete scorcher. The blanket is perfect for lounging and listening to the bands with your friends. The big bag can carry said blanket or a sweater if the moto vest above just isn’t providing enough warmth or even a rain pancho. I know from experience that a modern cowboy boot is super comfortable for lots of time on your feet.

Ok so the last festival outfit brings out the rainboots because so many festivals are held in open, muddy, fields. Don’t ruin your shoes just invest in a great pair of rainboots. I am pretty sure that Hunters became popular in North America after we saw them on Kate Moss and other British style stars at Glastonbury.

This outfit by itself doesn’t exactly scream festival until you pair it with all the accessories. The feather cuff and southwest wallet and wide brim fedora offset the city chic items like the silk tank and the hardware on the cross body bag.
