Sometimes Simpler is Better

Sometimes simpler is better when it comes to creating outfits. Especially when there is one with multiple layers.

Originally I had put on a printed blouse with these printed pants, in an attempt to be one of those girls who can mix prints with ease. It just wasn’t working for me today. So I went with a plain black merino wool sweater instead.

Then all of a sudden it was like the back alleys of Toronto just weren’t worthy of the outfit I had assembled. Like I needed to take it out somewhere else with picturesque Victorian buildings as backdrop. I got to the backyard.

Outfit details; Scarf & Jacket Club Monaco (old but options here and here), sweater Joe Fresh, Jeans Black Orchid (similar), Flat over the knee boots Cacee ShoeMint (c/o). Jewellery Stella & Dot (rings here & here, bracelets here & here)

I would like to point out that I am actually participating in the whole printed denim thing. I tried on a ton of pairs but for the most part passed because they were too busy for my bottom half. Until I tried on this Black Orchid pair.

The cut on these jeans is very forgiving and actually accommodates a bum. The black on grey print is incredibly wearable too, it doesn’t shout at you; it’s more subtle. And they were a Winners score so I paid like 1/2 of full retail.

shoemint tall boots review

These over the knee tall boots were a gift from ShoeMint, and to be honest I really thought I would be disappointed because it is rare that tall boots fit my calves. I usually have to get the wide calf option or pay super close attention to the circumference of the boot.

Then I tried them on. First the half zip thingy worked wonders. Remember my other black boots and how hard they are to get on, this alleviates that whole process. I did have to work a bit to pull them up the first time, and the stitching  that is around the 3/4 mark on the shaft made me wonder if my circulation was going to be cut off for a few minutes, but the boots are real leather so they stretch.

The leather is really nice and I am so in love with the toe of this boot I think my others are due for the consignment shop. Still I will note some of the differences from a more premium boot. Compared to my Fryes there are two major differences; both the lining and the sole is manmade in the Cacee ShoeMint tall boot, whereas a premium brand would be leather.

Still I really can’t complain about them at all, they are really lovely. And if like me you are worried about fitting into tall boots this is an option to try.

If you like the over the knee look, but want something that is a bit more practical than one with a sky-high hooker heel than again this is a great option to try.

If you are looking for one that can fold over to a pirate boot, this is not your option.

Would you do an over the knee boot?

I love the printed denim & these ones are fab...you gotta love Winners! I too have been down a Toronto back alley or two on the hunt of good pic's, it's like a hunt in a graffiti jungle :)

yes Winners can be amazing. I think I wore these 3 days straight! I actually found a really great spot for picts a short walk from my house but most of the time I can only run out to the alley.
